Looking for a social group for your homeschooled teenager or a homeschool playgroup for your youngster? Lunch Bunch, Lunch Bunch Junior, and SHOC (Social Homeschool Opportunity Club) may be just what you're looking for! S.H.O.C. (Social Homeschool Opportunity Club) S.H.O.C. (Social Homeschool Opportunity Club) is for boys and girls ages 9-14. (Younger/older siblings are welcome to come, but family must have one student within the targeted age group.) The goal is to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for students to meet and socialize. We want students to be able to make new friends and meet other homeschoolers within their age group. This group will meet once per month on the third Friday at a designated location and time, usually 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Just show up! A message will be sent out each month via the ECHO and FHE yahoo group to let you know the exact place, date, and time. Some of the places we will meet include various pizza restaurants in the area, Pratt Park, Spinners Park in Prattville, Montgomery Zoo, Prattville Cinema 12, and the Gayle Planetarium. This is not a drop and go for moms and dads! Parental supervision is required. For more information, contact Sami Matlock at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. It meets twice a month on the first and third Friday of every month during the school year from noon until 2:00 p.m. at Jane Milam's house (3350 Pinewood Lane, Millbrook). Teens bring their lunch and a 2-liter drink to share, and they eat and hang out for two hours. Please do NOT bring younger children, as this is a youth activity. The house is not child-proof and while the teenagers are checked on periodically, they are not directly supervised. Instead, parents can take younger children to Millbrook Park, which is literally only a mile away, or to McDonald's playland. Alternatively, many parents take their younger children to Lunch Bunch Junior (see details below). Parents may drop their teens off at Lunch Bunch and pick them up at 2:00 p.m., or they may stay and socialize with a few other parents who gather in the kitchen, as long as they do not bring their younger children. For directions or more information on Lunch Bunch, contact Jane Milam at 313-3267. Lunch Bunch Junior Lunch Bunch Junior will also resume on Friday, September 3. It meets twice a month on the first and third Friday of every month during the school year. Held at Debbie Jackson's house (552 Catalpa Road, Millbrook, less than 5 miles from the Lunch Bunch location), the junior version is for children grades 6 and below and their parents. The children eat and play from noon until 2 p.m. while the parents eat, fellowship and supervise. Bring your lunch! Debbie and her son have plenty of toys and indoor and outdoor play space.
