Outlook Academy Student Participates in Spelling Bee PDF Print E-mail
Outlook Academy student Max Brazelton, 13, of Chickasaw was one of the top three spellers representing Mobile in the Alabama Homeschool County Spelling Bee on January 30 at Community Presbyterian Church in Moody.

Homeschooled students in Alabama had previously participated in Spelling Bees in four districts: Auburn/Montgomery, Birmingham, Huntsville, and Mobile. The top three spellers in each District Bee were eligible to compete in the County Bee in January.

Congratulations to Christopher McDonald, a 6th grade homeschooler from Mobile. Christopher was declared the champion after 16 rounds of spelling. His winning word was poltergeist. The second place speller was Katie Kirk of Tuskegee. The third place speller was Marisa Connally of Ashville.

Christopher McDonald will represent Alabama homeschoolers in the Alabama State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 6, at Oak Mountain High School, 5476 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, AL 35242-4520. The Bee will begin at 12:00 p.m., and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Homeschoolers have won the Alabama Spelling Bee three out of the last six years! The winner of the Alabama Spelling Bee wins a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Alabama in the National Spelling Bee.
