Like many homeschooling parents, I have always incorporated read alouds in our daily schedule and assigned readers to my children. I usually choose books that go along with our history or geography lessons because literary classics and just plain good books will hold my children's interest and bring different time periods to life in ways that a text book never can. They also provide excellent examples of good writing.
In the last few years, I have researched and expanded my reading lists for the history, geography and literature classes at our Academy Days Homeschool Co-op. Since I've been asked for such lists many times, I will share them here.
Of course, these lists are not exhaustive. They comprise my own favorites as well as books from Sonlight and Beautiful Feet. You will likely find your own favorites on the list, but you may notice a few missing titles, too. If you have a suggestion, please let me know!
As with any reading list, preview the books to ensure they are appropriate for your children.

World Geography Book List
Alabama History Book List

I hope you and your family discover hours of reading pleasure in these books!
