Alabama Shakespeare Festival's Summer Acting Camps Feature Professional New York Actors as Instructors PDF Print E-mail

The world-renowned Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery offers summer camps for students gr. 4-6 and 7-12 in acting, musical theatre, technical theatre (lights, sound, sets, costume) and stage combat. Taught by professional New York actors and master artists, these one-week camps in June and July culminate in spectacular student performances. Early registration is advised because camps fill fast!

Camps are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless otherwise indicated. Cost includes t-shirts and family tickets to the final performance; some classes also include catered lunches from local Montgomery restaurants.

Camp Shakespeare Junior
(ages 5-8 years old) June 12-16 morning sessions (9 a.m. to noon) OR afternoon sessions (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
An introduction to theatre for your 5 to 8 year old, engaging them with dramatic play and theatre games! A great way to prepare for Camp Shakespeare!

Camp Shakespeare
(grades 4-6) July 10-14 or July 17-21
Work with real New York-based actors as you learn to act, move and cross swords like the pros. You don't know what cool is until you can sound like a Shakespearean actor!

Camp Shakespeare Extreme

(grades 7-12) June 19-23 or June 26-June 30
It's Camp Shakespeare but -- extreme! Dig deeper into your character, move effortlessly around the stage, learn to project and enunciate! Don't know what enunciate means? You will when everyone is hanging on your every word during your monologue. Due to high interest, a second opportunity for this camp has been arranged for July 2-6; this one may not be on the ASF web site yet, so call Greta Lamber for details. Contact info below.

Broadway SouthSouth: Musical Theatre Camp (pictured left)
(grades 9-12) July 24-28
If you're a triple threat just waiting to happen, you need to come to camp! Sing, dance and act side by side with real live professional actors on the ASF stage. Acclaimed ASF musicians and dancers teach an intensive week of classes in voice, choreography and acting skills for the aspiring musical star.

Behind the Curtain: Technical Theatre Camp
(grades 9-12) July 24-28
When directors and actors need sets, lights, sound and costumes so they can look good, who do they turn to? You! Learn from the best master theatre artists in the business!

Weekend Warrior
(grades 7-12) July 21 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) AND July 22 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Learn the skills of stage combat! Your personal fight master will teach you the secrets of hand-to-hand combat techniques as well as the use of various weapons.
