What is Academy Days Co-op?

A ministry of Outlook Academy, Academy Days is a homeschool co-op that offers classes difficult to teach at home or best taught in group settings, such as science labs, composition, foreign languages, art and P.E. Homeschool families meet Thursdays for 14 weeks in the fall and 14 weeks in the spring at Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, to learn, socialize and support one another.

The co-op is designed for high school students, but classes also include preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and junior high so the entire family can participate.

Homeschoolers from any church school covering are welcome, although many co-op members are enrolled in Outlook Academy and, therefore, receive a discount on co-op fees.

Classes
As a Christian homeschool co-op, we base our guidelines on precepts from the Bible, and classes are taught from a Christian worldview. Nevertheless, as an inclusive group, we welcome all families from diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and homeschool styles.

Classes are kept small, usually between 10 and 15 students, so they fill quickly; contact us early to sign up or to get on the waiting list for unexpected openings.

Classes run from fall through spring, but new students may still enroll in the spring. Although classes change every school year based on student interest and teacher availability, they usually include such core subjects as science labs, high school composition, foreign languages, and P.E. as well as electives such as photography, cooking, and computer programming.

High school classes are college-prep, but most allow grades 7 or 8 to enroll. Elementary and kindergarten students enjoy creative writing, P.E., history, and science as well as their own "elective" classes such as drama, art, music, and P.E.

Teachers
Teachers are fellow homeschooling parents with a degree, special knowledge or passion for the subjects they volunteer to teach. Most teachers hold bachelor's degrees, some hold master’s degrees, but all enjoy sharing their passion for learning with the students. Nearly all our classes have two or three “team teachers” who share the responsibility. Parents do not have to teach, but team teaching earns extra discounts.

Cost
Fees pay for supplies only, so co-op is very affordable, even for large families. Most class fees range from $2 to $15 for the entire semester, not per week, and the family registration fee can be reduced by using more than 15 discounts, including discounts for Outlook Academy members and military families!
